In March 2018, my step-daughter, Audra and her 3 children came in town for a visit. They decided to go to the beach and asked if I wanted to join them. I was tired and my feet had been bothering me which made walking uncomfortable; but I wanted to spend time with them. So off we went.
When we got to the beach the ocean was restless to say the least. So we told Rose and Samuel that we would not be playing in the ocean today. Audra did walk with the children to the edge of the water to wet their feet and then escorted them to our blankets so they could play in the sand.
After a while of laying in the sun, I got hot and wanted to get my feet wet. I stood up to walk to the water and Samuel requested to join me. That was fine with me. Then Rose wanted to go too. Audra felt uneasy with me being responsible for both children since my walking was impaired. But she allowed it.
We were about 8-10 feet from the water when suddenly a huge wave washed over the three of us; knocked us down; and we were all separated. My foot and lower leg was buried in the sand. When the water receded; the children were no where to be seen. I began frantically screaming their names. All I could think of was that they were dragged out into the ocean. I was petrified.
Audra had her eyes glued on us from the second we left the blanket. So she witnessed the entire terrifying event. Unbeknownst to me; she had left baby Noah on the blanket and ran down to save her children, one by one. Super mom to the rescue! Then she raced back to help me. When she appeared at my side I was yelling for Samuel and Rose. I was so relieved when she told me they were safe. She tried to lift me up but I couldn’t move. My right leg was planted firmly, as if in cement, and I was in excruciating pain when I tried to move. I told Audra to go back up to the children; so they would all be safe. She didn’t want to leave me because she was afraid another wave would come and do more damage.
I was sitting there praying and crying and couldn’t understand why this was happening. I had been having several health issues and now this!!! I looked up and saw a young lady come towards me. She gracefully sat down about two feet in front of me. She was facing me with her back to the ocean. She spoke in a calm and compassionate voice and said, “I am so sorry this has happened to you.” I said, “Yeh, me too.” I pleaded with her to go to safety but she didn’t budge. She just repeated again, “I am so sorry this happened to you."
Next thing I knew; two life guards came to my rescue. I never saw my the companion after that. They lifted me out of my miry clay and tried to get me to stand. I couldn’t put any weight on my right leg. So they basically carried me to the car. The kids were so frightened, almost to the point of shock.
As Audra drove us home we talked about the entire ordeal. I told her about the lady that sat with me while I waited for help. She looked confused and said, “There was no one with you. I would have seen someone sitting there. I watched you the entire time.” I began to describe her suit and how she looked but again Audra said, “Carletta, there wasn’t anyone else in the water."
I know God sent me an angel to hold back the waves and keep me safe that day. There is no doubt in my mind that that woman {angel} was sent by God to protect me. I will never forget her calm voice or the conversation with Audra; when we both realized that I had an encounter with a Heavenly being. At the time, the pain was overriding my excitement of my guardian angel but every time I think of it now; I feel so blessed and thankful for that wave.
Hebrews 1:14NIV Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
Hebrews 13:2NKJV Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly
entertained angels.
Psalm 91:11 NIV For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
There was definitely another in the water that day... holding back the sea.
