I was reading in Exodus 36:2-7 that reported an unusual problem that I’m sure most pastors have never experienced; but would welcome with open arms.
The people of Israel were building the sanctuary and bringing in their freewill offerings to the Lord. The craftsmen informed Moses that the people were bringing "more than enough" materials for the work that needed to be done. Moses gave a command to the people, to stop bringing any more offerings. The people were restrained from giving, for the supplies they had were sufficient for all the work to be done-indeed too much.
I’ve never heard a sermon on "Stop Giving, we have more than enough.” There are many generous people in this world, however there are countless people who are in desperate need, that outnumber those who give. God loves a cheerful giver as (my 10 year old grandson, Samuel, read on "kids all in Sunday” before he prayed over the offering). Tithes and offerings are important as well as bringing in a box of cereal or a couple of cans of ravioli. Give what you can and let God multiply it.
Yes, God does love a cheerful giver and there is joy in giving.
It is true, it’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving. Mother Theresa.
If everyone gave with love and gave what they could, we would have “more than enough” to support the church, feed the poor and homeless and then some.
