Have you ever been caught in a spider web?
I have, and it is a creepy feeling!
It makes me shiver, just thinking about it.
Every once in a while, I walk into one as I leave my house in the morning.
I must look like a crazy woman as I frantically flail my arms in front of me and then wildly brush my face and hair trying to free myself from the sticky threads of the web and from any uninvited spiders or other insects.
Spider webs are built from silk, which is produced within the body of the spider.
Webs have multiple purposes, but the most important one is to trap insects for food.
There are 4 reasons you might find spider webs in your home.
1. You don’t vacuum enough.
2. Your home perimeter isn’t secure.
3. You have too much vegetation near your exterior walls.
4. There are other pests in your home
This is not a science lesson on spiders, trust me, I am going to make a spiritual point.
The enemy of our souls weaves webs to snare us, as spiders do to their prey. 2Tim. 2:24-26
He is very sneaky and deceptive. Gen. 3:13
He is out to devour our joy and spiritual wellbeing just as spiders trap other insects for their food supply. 1 Peter 5:8
He attacks us from all sides and is relentless in his attempt to capture us. John 10:10
There are many ways to protect ourselves and our spiritual walk with the Lord from the one who is trying to overtake us, but I will concentrate on these 4 ways.
1. Keep your body, mind and spirit clean.
Is. 1:16-17 We need to keep a clean heart, stop doing wrong, seek justice, defend the oppressed.
Heb. 4:14 Hold firmly to our faith
Ps. 51:10-12 Ask God to create a clean heart in us and a right spirit. Stay in His presence and invite the Holy Spirit into your life.
1 Thes. 5:16-17 Rejoice always and pray continually.
2. Secure and protect your temple.
Prov. 24:3-4 Maintain wisdom, knowledge and understanding in your home.
Ps.34:7 Remember, the angel of the Lord encamps around you.
Joshua 24:15 Claim your household for God.
Eph. 6:10, 13-17 Put on the armor of God
1 Corin.6:19-20 Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
3. Stay focused on God, and not the camouflaged idols
that will invade and infect your life.
Remove the distractions that may block or imprison your attention,
your heart, mind and spirit from God, and allow you to become brain
dead to the things of God.
Ex. 20:3 Have no other gods, but God Himself
Gal. 5:19-26 The distractions of the flesh will deter you from the Spirit.
1 John 2:15-17 Don’t love the things of this world.
James 4:7-8 Resist the devil and draw near to God.
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world.
1 Cor. 15:33 Bad company corrupts good character.
4. Hinder your opponent from overpowering your home.
Prov. 12:7 The wicked are overthrown.
Ps. 1:1-3 Blessed is the man who walks, delights, and meditates on the Lord.
Ps. 91:3, 9-11 God will save us from the fowler’s snare.
Prov. 29:25 Those who trust in the Lord will be safe.
1 John 4:1-6 Don’t believe all you hear, test the spirit of those you allow in your circle.
God longs for fellowship with His children; that is the reason we were created; that is the reason
Jesus gave His life for us. However, the enemy is constantly trying to destroy, snare, steal, and trap us in his web of deceit and sin to prevent our communication and unity with God.
My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish;
no one will snatch them out of my hand.
John 10:27-28
