Family Life Matters and is Forever

Updated: Aug 1, 2021

My mom and my immediate family and their families

I am so thankful for the family that I was born into. I am the second oldest of 6 children. Our "Rogers clan" wasn’t the Father Knows Best or Leave it to Beaver family but we are a family. We have our differences and don’t always see eye to eye, but we always have that family

connection and love for each other. We also have a very large extended family.

My mom was one of 5 children in her family and we all stayed close to her sister and three brothers and their families. When we were growing up, I got to see most of them almost every week. We would all gather together to have dinner at a near by Italian restaurant. Our parents played cards after dinner at our house, and all the children would play to our hearts content . Almost every holiday or family event we would gather for fun, food and fellowship. We are a close knit, loud, sarcastic, fun, loving, Italian family and most of the time, we enjoy spending time together. We usually greet each other with a hug and kiss and leave each other the same way. I am a descendant of a truly blessed family!

I miss those childhood days, my family and the fun we experienced together. We don’ t get to see each other often now, because we live in various states. However, when we are together; it feels as if we have never been separated. We laugh and tease each other, reminisce of the "good old days"; and lovingly but sadly remember those of our family who are no longer with us.

This type of family bond/unity is

not as common now, in 2021.

The family dynamics have drastically changed in many households.

My childhood family structure

is a minority now and may even

qualify for the endangered species list.

My husband and I love to entertain and cook, so whenever family members come to town there is an open invite for dinner at our home. My daughter, her hubby and my mom are the only relatives we have in town now; so we gather for Sunday dinners and for other occasions in order to carry on a small piece of our tradition.

I love my relatives and wish I cold see them more often; to recapture some of those childhood feelings and to create new memories. However, that is not the way our lives intertwine now. My homesick heart aches at times to unite with my family and celebrate life with them, but my passionate prayer and desire to live with them forever one day in eternity causes an even deeper longing and a greater ache. I pray for my family members to prosper in all things and to be in good health, and for their spirit man to prosper also. This world is not our home we are just pilgrims passing through to our Heavenly Kingdom Home. I have faith and hope that our family gatherings will continue on someday forever in eternity. Jesus gives us an open invitation, "Come as you are.” He is at the door knocking, let Him in.

Just a few more of my relatives
