Believe With Expectation

Sunday one of my prayers was answered at church. It was one of those amazing God incidents. At first, I wept with tears of joy in thanksgiving, then I exclaimed, "I can’t believe this, I just can’t believe it.”

Why would I say that???

I do believe in God and believe He hears and responds to me! I did believe God would answer this prayer, but I just coudn’t believe HOW, He answered it, and HOW quickly, He responded!!! He rarely seems to answer; when I want Him to, or in the way I expected Him to but He always answers. He knows what I desire and need, and there are moments when He provides for me, without a prayer ever leaving my lips, and or before the request even interns my mind.

Isaiah 65:24 NLB

I will answer them before they even call to me.

While they are still talking about their needs,

I will go ahead and answer their prayers.

That’s just the kind of God He is!!!

John Ortberg in his book Eternity Is Now in Session wrote, “Illumination is the word for the process by which we come to see and think differently. Illumination doesn’t simply mean believing certain things about Jesus. It means coming to believe what Jesus Himself believed.”

Jesus was in tune with His heavenly Father by believing totally in His miraculous power and ability. He knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that His Father was able and willing to hear and help Him. He believed In God, and as the Son of God, He also believed what God would and or would not do, as well as what God could or could not do.

Jesus prayed, “My God if it be thy will take

this cup from me!” Matthew 26:39

There are three ways that God answers prayers. God says “Yes,” and you receive what you ask for. God says “No,” and you have to accept it and move on. Or God says “Not Yet,” and you learn to be patient and wait. We should pray the Word of God and according to the will of God.

John 11:40 Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?

vs. 42 Father, I thank You that You have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.

My faith seems strong, I trust

in God when I’m on the mountain top;

I firmly stand on the edge of the cliff to enjoy the beauty and peace; until I lose my focus and begin to gaze below into the valley of despair. I lack the grace of a deer with hinds feet as I try to navigate, to and through the rough terrain. At that point and time, I am no longer engaging in an intimate communication with the Three in One. Nor am I believing what Jesus Himself believed.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways acknowledge Him,

and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-67

That is one of my favorite scriptures and was so easy to memorize but it takes daily practice and determination to implement it. So the next time God answers one of my prayers, I hope that i don’t react in surprise, and say, “I can’t believe it, I just cant believe it!"

Instead, I hope I say, “ Thank you God, I knew You would answer that prayer."

I will pray with expectation, and believe what Jesus Himself believed.
