A Loud But Peaceful Night In The Dark

Updated: Apr 19, 2023

Sunday eve there was a ferocious storm that raged for several hours with heavy rains, a crackling lightening extravaganza and frequent, thunderous drum rolls that seemed to shake the house and literally scared the pee out of my little dog, Pumpkin.

I was just taking the egg rolls out of the oven and getting ready to dish out our chow mein, when all the electricity in the house and the neighborhood went out. Needless to say, we had dinner by candle light. For about three hours mom, Dana, Dave and I sat in the dark eating, talking and listening to the tempestuous melody of the storm.

I really enjoyed our quality time together, without the TV or any other distractions. Dana said, "It feels like we are in olden days before electricity.” I am so thankful, I live in this time period with all of our comfy conveniences.

It was a quiet and simple night with three people I love. We may just plan a dinner in the dark again some Sunday night, just for fun. I always treasure our family time together but last night was really something special. Listening to the rain was so relaxing, except for the sudden explosions of thunder and Pumpkin maneuvering her

way nervously to each of us for comfort.

The black out will always be a good memory and really increased my appreciation for electricity. However, I was so thankful and relieved when the FPL truck showed up.

My mom was so confused and didn’t understand why the switch wouldn’t turn on the bathroom light and why I was following her with battery operated candles. The electricity was finally restored, my AC and lights were operating, and I was a happy camper and thanking God as well as FPL!!!

I don’t ever want to take my modern day comforts for granted and I’m so thankful for the lights and The Light. Unfortunately, I don’t consciously depend on Him as much as I do electricity.

I have never experienced a black out with Him. He is always in my life illuminating the darkness and providing me with His power to be and do all that He has created me to do.

He has supplied all of my needs and never left me wanting.

The switch for a Jesus supply is always operational.

I want to remain enlightened and charged up on Him.

He is my true power source for everything that I need.

I pray that I don’t take Him or electricity for granted ever again.

When I switch on a light or open my fridge or use something else powered by electricity, I will thank God. I also thank FPL for doing their job and restoring my electric so quickly during the terrible storm.

I will think of Jesus as I reach for the light switch or fridge and remember to thank Him for being the light of my path and keeping me fresh for His service to others.

You Lord, are my lamp;

the Lord turns my darkness

Into light. 2Samuel 22:29
