Today, I want to thank Jan, my kidney donor for listening to God and obeying Him 5 years ago. We are celebrating our annivesary today! Becasue of her, my life is enriched and my body is healthy.

I am able to live without dialysis and I have energy to live a full life.

I have celebrated 5 more birthdays, visited Israel, enjoyed 6 additional Christmases and other holidays, taken vacations to visit family, and celebrated my mom’s 98th birthday. I continue to be able to take care of myself and my mom, have quality time with my husband, and our family and grandkids. I am blessed to experience fellowship with my bible study groups and to grow deeper in my relationship with the Lord and to serve my community and my church. I work 3 days a week and enjoy many activities that enrich my life and I hope that I am enriching others lives.

I do not take any day for granted , but attempt to make each day count for good and to show gratitude to God for extending my life with a healthy kidney. He cared enough about me to speak distinctly to Jan, and gave her an obedient heart so I could live a full unhindered life. Each day for me is a miracle and a blessing. I still am amazed that I have my friend's kidney (lil’ Jan) and that she is functioning so well. My doctors are also amazed at my lab work and how well I am doing.

I am abundantly blessed beyond what I could ask or think. Eph. 3:20

Jan continues to do well also and is also very active and is always serving others. Jan is a "one of a kind unique” woman. She gave out of obedience and reverent fear of the Lord - a fear of awe and love for God. I thank God for His Sovereignty and His provisions for me and Jan. I pray for others who are waiting for organs to be donated, for those who donate and for more people to be donors.

Yesterday at work two of my coworkers were complaining about their tattoos and how they wish they hadn’t gotten them. They were talking about having them removed and how painful and expensive that process is. Their lives and desires have changed but the tattoos remained.

I was searching for pictures of tattoos for this blog and couldn’t believe how many pages and designs of tattoos there were. This one struck me as one of the most interesting.

I wonder if he has any regrets!

People get tattoos for various reasons, including sentimental reasons, identity expression, cultural and social reasons, aesthetic appeal as well as a display of love honor or memory to someone or something.

A young man at the store had Proverbs 3:5-6 tattooed on his arm to help him memorize and live out his favorite scripture, another friend has her deceased family member's name on her wrist, and my brother Marco has tattoos all over his body, each tattoo has a special purpose and emotion attached. On his left arm is my mom’s maiden name, and his 6 children’s names, he had just enough space left for his watch.

God was the originator of tattoos just as He was the originator of everything created.

There is nothing new under the sun Ecclesiastes 1:9.

The Bible says, in Isaiah 49:16 - See I have engraved you on the palms of my hands...

God loves us so much. He will never leave us and can never forget us. He sees us and knows exactly what is going on in every aspect of our lives. He is constantly thinking about us and we are always on His mind. Psalm 139 We cannot escape His presence, no matter where we go or what we do. He doesn’t need to tattoo our names on His palms to remember us, because He is incapable of forgetting.

I am embarrassed and ashamed when I am experiencing a “down in the dump day” because I can’t sense God and I am lonely, and joyless. I feel out of sorts and detached. I’ve taken my eyes off of God and begrudgingly drown in a pool of despair. I struggle with connecting intimately with my Lord but miss the heavenly mark. The spiritual home in my temple is unoccupied and I feel like one of the “walking dead.” (Thank God this is a very rare occurrence!) But it does occur.

Did God leave me? Does He have dementia and doesn’t know where I am, or what I need? Did He turn His back on me? Does He even exist? Is His Word true? Is He hiding from me? Does He not care? Did my tattooed name fade off His hands?

Not a chance! I, forgot Him, His name, His power, and that He is able to do all things Eph. 3:20

I forgot that He is too good to not believe. I had amnesia concerning Psalm 139 and His overwhelming love for me. I failed to put Him first place in my life and to delight myself in Him.

He can turn my “down in the dump days” around if I seek Him. He is always up to something good and always moving toward me. I’m the one who moved. I’m the one who needs His name tattooed on my hands. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.

A man is raised up from the earth by two wings-simplicity and purity. There must be simplicity in his intention and purity in his desires. Simplicity leads to God, purity embraces and enjoys Him.

Thomas a Kempis

Over the 72 years of my life, I have accumulated an enormous amount of stuff. More stuff than one person should acquire. I have frequently purged areas of my house, but for some reason other items seem to mysteriously invade my home. (This is now my closet, not!!!)

I occasionally decrease some of my abundance of clothing and other outdated or extra items I have collected, but I still have a couple of drawers , closets and pantries that remain cluttered that cause me a little nausea and embarrassment when I open them.

So with the new year starting I decided, I wanted to organize these areas of abyss and find freedom. I enlisted the most organized person I know, my daughter Dana, to help me with the areas that are hidden behind closed doors and in drawers.

We started in my bathroom under my sink. WOW!!! Wish we would have taken before and after pics, but we were so eager to get started we forgot. Dana pulled everything out onto the floor in a New York minute. It took us an hour to complete our undertaking. We filled 3 grocery bags of trash and one bag of expired or discontinued prescription drugs before the cabinet renovation was complete. Dana even bought me clear stacking bins and made it look so professional. I actually know everything that I have and where it is. Lack of clutter here and other areas has helped me to have a simpler life and set me free in a unique way that I can’t explain.

A cluttered home keeps us from seeing things clearly, just as a cluttered mind can distract us from the goal or plans that God has for us. Simplifying our lives clears up our time and can abolish mental distractions so we can focus on the basics of godliness and develop a deeper intimacy with God. Sometimes Christians can complicate the simplicity of their spiritual life with too many activities, too much overtime at work, too much debt, and too much everything else-leaving very little time or energy for God, His word, or serving others.

We cannot become more like Christ when our lives are cluttered with chaos and controlled by crisis. When our minds are cluttered, it limits our ability to give adequate attention to our relationship with Jesus Christ and the plans and purposes He has prepared for us. My desire is to continue to detach myself from my over abundance in my home, my mind and my personal and spiritual life in order to be free to attach myself fully to my relationship with God.

Embrace the minimalist lifestyle this year!

What is it in your life that you need to discard so that you can grow deeper and more focused in your spiritual journey with God?

Clutter is the enemy of simplicity.
